US draws 0-0 with Argentina

The United States Men's National Team finished their preparation for World Cup Qualifying with a scoreless draw with Argentina, the number 1 ranked team in the world. In front of over 78,000 fans at Giants Stadium, the US put on their best performance of the past month, but still couldn't find the back of the net. Landon Donovan started and played the entire match for his 100th international appearance. The 26-year-old become the fourth youngest player in the world to get his 100th cap.

Tim Howard started in goal and came up with some big saves, especially in the first half. Heath Pearce looked very good at left back and Clint Dempsey and DaMarcus Beasley both put in solid performances.

Pablo Mastroeni was ejected in the 72nd minute for his second yellow card on what looked like a non-existent foul. Argentina's Javier Mascherano also saw red for bad tackle on Donovan in the 87th minute.

The US begins World Cup qualifying against Barbados next Sunday.

US falls 2-0 to England at Wembley Stadium in London

The US Men's National Team fell 2-0 to England today on goals by John Terry and Steven Gerrard in front of over 71,000. Terry's goal came in the 38th minute when he headed home a David Beckham free kick past Tim Howard. Gerrard scored in the 59th minute when he got on the end of a perfectly placed through ball from substitute Gareth Barry and finished past substitute 'keeper Brad Guzan with a nice shot to the far post.

The US never really threatened England and goalkeeper David James until the last ten minutes when substitute Eddie Lewis beat his defender and put in a dangerous cross in the 81st minute. James barely managed to tip it out for a corner kick with two US players lurking at the far post. Freddy Adu, also a late substitute, forced James into a diving save with a right footed shot from the top of the box in the 88th minute.

Guzan and Lewis were probably the two most impressive players for the US with the Chivas US 'keeper making a couple of nice early saves and Lewis looking dangerous beating his man down the left wing and sending in quality set pieces that were lacking earlier in the match before he came off the bench. Heath Pearce also looked good, particularly in the second half, making a few key tackles at left back and causing problems the few times he ventured forwards.

The US next travels to Santander, Spain where they will face the Spanish National Team on Wednesday, June 4th. That match can be seen live on at 4PM, or delayed at 5:30 on ESPN2.
