Revs Eliminated from CONCACAF

The New England Revolution fell 4-0 to Joe Public F.C. on Tuesday completing a 6-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of their Trinidadian opponents.

The loss marks the first time an MLS team has been eliminated from CONCACAF competition by a Caribbean opponent and it is also the first time an MLS team has give up three or more goals to Caribbean opposition. Additionally, it was the team's worst loss at home this season through all competitions.

It was never going to be an easy night with forwards Taylor Twellman, Adam Cristman, Kenny Mansally, and Kheli Dube all unavailable. With captain Steve Ralston also available and Nicol opting to rest defenders Chris Albright and Michael Parkhurst while starting Amaechi Igwe out of position at center back, even the defense was bound to look shaky.

Must Win for Revs in CONCACAF

Who: Joe Public F.C. at New England Revolution
What: CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Mass.
When: Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. (Fox Soccer Channel)

After falling 2-1 last week in the away leg of the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions League, the New England Revolution need a victory against Joe Public F.C. on Tuesday to advance to the group stages.

While the away goal rule means a 1-0 victory would be enough, any win by two goals would also do the trick.

"It's 2-1, we've got one away goal and to play a Trinidadian team with three days' rest we know it's going to be hard," said midfielder Shalrie Joseph. "We know we are at home and we definitely want to move on to the next stage in the Champions League.

Joe Public Downs Revs in First Leg

An anemic New England offense rarely threatened Trinidad's Joe Public F.C. and the Revolution fell 2-1 in the away leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round series.

Injuries decimated the Revs offensive options and only a late penalty kick converted by Mauricio Castro allowed them to escape the island nation in a decent position heading into the home leg.

With strikers Kenny Mansally, Kheli Dube, and Adam Cristman all unavailable due to injury, the Revs played a similar formation to the one they used in Toronto, with Taylor Twellman as the lone striker and Steve Ralston pushed a bit further forward than usual. The offensive options became even poorer when Ralston was forced to leave the match with back spasms and the Revs subbed on Wells Thompson and pushed Castro into the center.

What: CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round
Where: Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago
When: Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. (Fox Soccer Channel)

Coming off a 1-1 draw in Toronto in league play, the Revs are still searching for just their second ever victory in meaningful competition outside of the United States and their first in over five years.

Joe Public has twice before faced MLS completion in the COCACAF Champions Cup, though both times on U.S. soil. In 1998, they fell 8-0 to D.C.
